Firefighter Helps Man Back from the Brink

Continued From Page 1

Nearly a quarter mile away a man was cowering "on all fours" dangerously close the edge of a 150 foot drop and a woman was calling to him to come back. The man had walked to the edge but when he looked down to the desert floor 150 feet away he panicked and lost control, collapsing to his hands and knees. George and Nancy rushed to his aid.

When George reached the man he found himself near the edge and the man in a state of panic; clawing at the rocks beside him, loosening

sand and grit, potentially making the footing slippery. While George tried to assist the man, Nancy, a registered nurse, was trying to calm the man’s wife. Fearing the panicked man might have a heart attack Nancy called 911.

It took Flores a half hour to talk the 68-yearold man back to safety and onto his feet. Only then could he turn the man over to the care of the paramedics and fire department personnel that responded.

George and Nancy were staying in a cabin deep in the coolness of shaded Oak Creek Canyon where they had a trout stream running past their door. George caught rainbow and brown trout fly fishing. I guess that's the  "magical time" he talks about.
