"Lighthouse" United Methodist Church Building Moving Forward
Summer Programs in Full Swing

By Linda Fudala-Tucker

Last week more than 30 young people participated in United Methodist Vacation Bible School despite the rainy days.

"It was a challenge this year with the rainy days," said Sharon McKenzie, director of education at the church. And it's only the beginning for the older kids who will be going on a summer missions program throughout Florida for a week starting on June 27.

"The kids always get so much out doing something like this. They always grow spiritually and come back renewed in so many ways," said McKenzie.

Currently, the teens meet weekly on Friday evenings for fellowship and fun under the direction of Mark and Ruthann Spurgeon, she said.

"They either get together at the church office or at the Spurgeonshome," she said.

In the meantime, the foundation for the expanded sanctuary has been laid with hopes of perhaps being able to worship in the church by Christmas. Lord willing.
