Every year, members of the Boca Grande
Woman's Club hold a gala, Spring Fair and work the Boca Bargains
thrift shop to raise funds for the betterment of the community
with little or no media recognition. In the past, the club has
been mediashy about making public the group's contributions. So,
it's with great pleasure and a note of thanks that the Banner
publishes the following report submitted by Carlene Stewart.
Each
year the Boca Grande Woman's Club raises funds that are awarded
to various local organizations. In April 2005, past President Je
Je Pierce announced that a total of $137,000 had been raised and
awarded this year. Each year local organizations are given an
opportunity to seek donations from the Woman's Club. This year
$63,000 in funds were donated to the following organizations: |
Amber Lake Wildlife Rescue, Boca Grande Art Alliance, Boca
Grande Child Care Center, Boca Grande Community
Center, Boca Grande Health Clinic
Foundation, Boca Grande Historical Society, Boca Grande Island
School, Barrier Island Parks Society, Crowninshield House, GICIA,
Johann Fust Community Library, Lemon Bay High School for "Sussical
the Musical," Lemon Bay High School Band, Lemon Bay High
School Project Graduation, Royal Palm Players, and Whidden's
Maritime Museum. Scholarships in the amount of $61,000 were also
awarded to deserving students who have a connection to Boca
Grande.
Separately the New Year's Eve Party in 2005
raised $13,000 for the Hurricane Charley Relief Fund in addition
to an earlier gift of $10,000. The Dog Show raised $15,000 for
