Sunrise Service 2005 drew a large crowd to the Lighthouse beach area at the south end of the island. The service this Easter Sunday is slated for 6:30a.m. in the same general area. Bring chairs or blankets and expect to be blessed.

A Good Friday tradition in Boca Grande, several hundred follow "the way of the cross" throughout the village stopping at various points to pray, meditate and sing. The procession begins and ends at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and starts at noon. See page 14.

GIWA
Water Board - Members Adopt New Rate Structure

By Linda Fudala-Tucker

Members of the Gasparilla Island Water Association voted Monday to approve a new rate structure as presented by the GIWA board that was modified from the original structure, but will still mean higher water bills.

The modification took into account those users with larger meters to

accommodate home fire sprinkler systems. The bottom line for any home user is 10,000 gallons regardless of size of meter. Most homeowners using that amount will only see a modest increase in their bills. Those with larger meters using more would see the largest increases. (see chart below).

Mike Holmes, president of the GIWA board, cited the decline in new connection sign up fees along with increased FP&L surcharges due to the active hurricane seasons with a subsequent raise in insurance costs as reasons for the rate hikes.

with the intention of killing animals except as a last resort. But, "it is precisely because of my involvement with conservation efforts and the living world that I am concerned about the presence and growing populations of black spiny-tailed iguanas on Gasparilla Island," writes Dr. Jackson.

His response goes into details about the differences between the green iguana popular as pets and the variety
